The number of overnight stays by visitors to Japan is increasing in urban areas, with a 20% increase in rural areas, a 50% increase in the three major metropolitan areas, and a large increase in Tokyo – Japan Tourism Agency (second preliminary report, August 2024)



The total number of overnight guests in August 2024 was 64.98 million, an increase of 1% compared to the same month last year and 2.8% compared to the same month in 2019. The total number of foreign overnight stays has increased to 13.24 million. Japanese people stayed overnight at 51.74 million.
