According to the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), the estimated number of Japanese people leaving the country in August 2024 is 1.44 million. This is a 31.9% decrease compared to 2019, but a recovery to just under 70% of the pre-COVID level. It is a 19.7% increase compared to 2023.
