I became a member of the Meteorological Society when I entered graduate school.30It was a year ago. In addition, the Meteorological Society must proceed with reforms in terms of countermeasures against the declining trend in membership and ensuring diversity in its membership. Until now, I think the Meteorological Society has had a strong role as a place for researchers to carry out academic activities. On the other hand, we must make sure that the Japan Meteorological Society is attractive not only to researchers but also to people who are not involved in research, such as people working in the field of meteorology, weather forecasters, and school teachers. In addition, after graduation, graduate students majoring in meteorology are encouraged to work in various sectors that do not focus on research, such as government agencies such as the Japan Meteorological Agency, private companies, etc., in various fields such as weather disaster prevention, environmental impact assessment, and climate change countermeasures. It is important that the academic society continues to work on human resource development. I also believe that the meteorological society must provide a place where they can play an active role. We would like to provide a place where all members can feel that they are in a situation where it is easier for them to be active.

The Meteorological Society needs to change little by little but steadily with an eye to the future. These changes cannot be carried out by the members of the Board of Directors alone, and even more so, they cannot be carried out by me alone.
